Golden hour is the low-sun light around sunrise and sunset. GoldenHourly uses a planning band from 4° below the horizon to 6° above it: the sun climbs through that band in the morning and descends through it in the evening. The part with the sun above your visible horizon can provide warm, directional light; the part after sunset or before sunrise is twilight. Clouds, terrain and buildings affect the light you actually see.
Choose your city and date above, then read the morning and evening start and end times in local time. The window changes with latitude and season, so subtracting one hour from sunset is only a rough shortcut. Check the start time and the sun's bearing, then arrive about 15 minutes early so you are set up before the window begins. Try backlight or side-light while the sun is visible, and use a fixed white balance if you want consistent warmth. In the evening, stay for the blue hour that follows; in the morning, blue hour comes first.
